FAQ's about Cosmetic Tattooing & Microblading

Things to consider about cosmetic tattooing:

Cosmetic tattooing can last anywhere from 1-3 years dependant on skintype and lifestyle factors. Each person will hold pigment differently and fade at different rates. Although it will fade overtime, there is no guarantee that it will fade away completely.

Sun exposure: The sun will soften the look of your tattoo, so sunblock should always be used (once healed) to prolong your enhancement.

The regeneration of skin cells: The longer the regeneration takes, the longer the pigment holds, i.e: the more mature the client, the longer the results last.

Bleeding during the procedure: Heavy bleeding during the tattooing procedure will reduce the amount of pigment absorption. Alcohol, caffeine and certain medications act as blood-thinners and should not be taken prior to and following your appointment.

Your eyebrows will appear darker and more intense for the first few days. They will gradually lighten during the complete healing process. Redness and swelling is minimal.

If you have extremely oily skin, microblading will not work as well for you. The constant production of oil can cause the hair strokes to heal with a diffused, softer look. Your end result will look more powdered or we may decide that powdered brows may be a better option for you. Results vary with each client.

If you have little to no existing hair, your tattoo will appear more 2-dimensional than those clients who have more hair naturally.

If you are a frequent smoker, your pigment may fade sooner.

Previously tattooed areas and cover-ups will almost always require additional touch-ups for best results and will be charged accordingly. Results vary with each client.

Appointments can take anywhere from 1 – 3 hours depending on the work needed.

Who should NOT have cosmetic tattooing done?

We DO NOT perform cosmetic tattooing on pregnant women. If you are nursing, please check with your doctor if it is ok to receive microblading before booking your appointment.

If you have been on prescription Accutane in the past, you MUST wait at least one year before considering this procedure.

Anyone under the age of 18, at brows & blush co, you must be 18 years or older to receive the microblading service.

Anyone currently undergoing cancer treatments

Anyone using blood thinning medication – with a doctors permission we would require clients using this type of medication to discontinue use for a minimum of 1 week prior to their appointment. This includes Vitamin E, Aspirin, Niacin, fish oil supplements, Ibuprofen, B6, Omega 3, Gingko Biloba, St. John’s Wort, Evening Primrose Oil, Niacin – as they contribute to thinning the blood and may affect anesthetic efficacy. You may resume taking your vitamins 72 hours after.

Diabetes can cause more bleeding and longer healing time, this can be determined on a case by case basis.

Anyone who has had botox or other injections LESS than 2 weeks before the treatment

What is the procedure on the day of the appointment?

First we will go thru your client forms and take BEFORE photos

We will then begin the brow design, we do not use stencils, we do however use measuring tools to gain the best symmetry. Your brows are custom designed to enhance your features according to your facial proportions and your desired overall shape. You may bring photos of brow shapes that you like. We do not begin until you are happy and approve the shape.

Once you are happy with the shape we will NUMB your brow area and then we will begin the procedure. The microblading/tattoing itself usually only takes an average of about 30 to 45 minutes. The most time is spent during the consult, shaping and numbing.

This first appointment takes approximately 2.5 hours from start to finish, and a follow-up visit is scheduled 8-12 weeks later. The follow-up visit allows for minor touch-ups and adding density to the brows.

You will be sent home with after care instructions and aftercare product, which you must follow diligently to ensure the best healed results possible.

Does it hurt?

We use a topical numbing cream to prenumb the area, and continue to use numbing throughout the your procedure to keep you comfortable. The ingredients include lidocaine and tetracaine.

Some clients have fallen asleep and most are surprised by how minimal any pain is!

Please note that if a studio is not using numbing before microblading or during the cosmetic tattoo procedure this is not the industry standard. Numbing products can be expensive but they are worth it and part of keeping clients comfortable!

What to expect after the procedure?

Your eyebrows will appear darker and more intense for the first few days. They will gradually lighten during the complete healing process.

There is no downtime after the appointment, you may have some slight redness but this should subside within a few hours to a day – you may go to work or continue your schedule as usual.

Redness and swelling is minimal. The area may feel like a sunburn and may be itchy while healing but there should be minimal discomfort.

The area may flake/peel (it should be minimal by following my aftercare) but you may want to leave 7-10 days between your appointment and any major events/vacations.

The complete healing process takes about 4 weeks, at which time the true color of the tattoo is evident. During this process, your tattoo will soften and lighten. Be patient, even if you think too much color has been lost, as your skin is still regenerating and naturally exfoliating. Wait at least 4 weeks to see the true color, as it seems to take on new strength, and it is only after 8-12 weeks that your touch-up/adjustment can be done.

Can you work over previous artists work? What is the cost?

We will work over previous artists work if the previous work is light enough and the shape is something we can work on. In some cases where the previous work is too dark, dense, discoloured, or large, tattoo removal will be highly recommended before we begin the cover-up. We work very hard to use the pigments to colour correct and cover over the tattoo, however results cannot be guaranteed.

Since we will be working over a previous shape we may be able to make some small adjustments to the shape but we wont be able to make any drastic changes from the existing shape.

** If your brows are previously tattooed, you MUST EMAIL OR TEXT US A PHOTO to info@browsandblushco.com OR 613-222-5512 before booking to ensure that we are able to rework them. If they are too dark or too bold, removal may be required before we can work with you.

Annual touch up/colour refresh pricing is for existing studio clients ONLY.  IF we are able to work over your existing tattoo the price starts at $325 for 1 SESSION only - if an additional session is required the price will be the difference remaining for the cost of a new client ($150). Colour corrections will almost always require 2 or more sessions.

Is the studio and equipment safe?

Absolutely! We take every precaution in having an immaculate and clean studio space. We only use single use, sterile disposable needles. Also, all the supplies on our tray are single use only, this means that each set-up for each client is discarded safely afterwards. Each of our stations are thoroughly disinfected before starting and after each procedure throughout the day.
